8th Avenue Townhouse
Location: Brooklyn – Park Slope
Project Type: Residential

Status: Completed 2015

About this Project

Formerly known as the Adams Mansion (or Chiclets Chewing Gum Mansion to many Brooklynites), this property on 8th avenue in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood has an interesting history dating back to the 1800’s. It was built for the Adams Family - owners of the Chiclets Chewing Gum empire – as a two family house in 1888, and as economic circumstances fluctuated over the last 128 years, its occupancy and use varied. In 2013 our clients purchased this grandiose building with plans to return it to its original two-family layout. At the time of purchase the castle was functioning as a 10-unit apartment building. MJM worked tirelessly with owners, designers, architects, and city agencies – namely the LPC (landmarks preservation committee) to restore this mansion to its former Romanesque-Revival glory. This was one of the most meticulous and detail-oriented jobs MJM has ever done due to the historical protection of almost every major architectural element throughout the building, meaning everything had to be restored as close as possibly to original quality. From high rise hotels to historical restorations, this project is further proof MJM’s diverse capabilities.
